After candidate field shake-up, Hong holds commanding lead 2 weeks from primary day
There’s perhaps no primary in the country that’s been more chaotic than Wisconsin’s Democratic primary for Governor. Just this month, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley dropped out of the race, then re-entered it with an endorsement from Governor Evers once Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez ended her campaign — a move largely viewed as an effort to try and prevent Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong from becoming the Democratic nominee.
Instead, the move has cemented Hong’s status as a frontrunner for the nomination. From July 23rd through July 26, State Navigate fielded a poll sponsored by Main Street Action and UpNorthNews among likely voters in the upcoming Democratic primary. The poll found Hong at 44% among likely voters compared to Crowley’s 15% and former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes’s 14%. State Senator Kelda Roys, businessman Joel Brennan, and Rodriguez are at 4%; 13% of voters are undecided/don’t remember who they voted for (for those who returned an absentee ballot).
